Yakshit Yuva Foundation: Sport Transforms Youth
Transforming Lives Through Sport: The Remarkable Journey of Yakshit Yuva Foundation and Taekwondo Master Shreepada R. Rao A beacon of hope emerges from Karnataka’s heartland, where Olympic values meet grassroots development in an extraordinary tale of social transformation Belagavi, Karnataka — In the bustling corridors of modern India’s development narrative, few organisations have managed to weave together the threads of sport, education, and social service with such remarkable precision as the Yakshit Yuva Foundation. Founded in 2022 by the distinguished Taekwondo Master Shreepada R. Rao, this humanitarian organisation has quietly revolutionised youth development across Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa, establishing itself as a paradigm of sports-based social transformation. The Visionary Behind the Movement At the heart of this extraordinary initiative stands Taekwondo Master Shreepada R. Rao, whose journey began at the tender age of nine when he first embraced martial arts, ultimately finding his calling in the Olympic discipline of Taekwondo at sixteen. Taekwondo Master Rao’s path exemplifies dedication, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. His credentials speak volumes: a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, a Master’s in Physical Education, a 4th Dan International Black Belt, a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching (Taekwondo), and NSNIS Course certification. As an International Taekwondo Coach (Level-II), Taekwondo Master Rao combines academic rigour with practical expertise. Yet beyond these accolades lies a more profound achievement—his induction into both the International Hall of Fame, USA, and the Taekwondo Hall of Fame, India, in 2022. Most recently, Taekwondo Master Rao was honoured with the prestigious International Icon Award 2025 in both Sports Administration and Humanitarian Service categories, cementing his status as a global ambassador for sports-based social development. “Taekwondo is not merely a martial art,” reflects Taekwondo Master Rao. “It serves as a vehicle for social transformation, teaching discipline, respect, resilience, and teamwork—qualities that extend far beyond the training mat into every aspect of life.” A Foundation Built on Olympic Values The Yakshit Yuva Foundation operates under a compelling vision: “To build a better society by developing responsible, disciplined, and resilient youth through the transformative power of sports and education.” This mission is underpinned by four strategic pillars that demonstrate the organisation’s sophisticated understanding of holistic development. Firstly, the foundation promotes Olympism and instils the values of sportsmanship amongst the nation’s youth. Secondly, it develops young athletes in Taekwondo whilst promoting cultural, social, and economic advancement in local communities. The third pillar focuses on training children from rural backgrounds in sport, shaping them into disciplined and responsible citizens who contribute to societal well-being. Finally, the organisation promotes inclusive and equitable education by integrating sport with academics, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020. RAO’s Yuva Academy: A Centre of Excellence The foundation’s flagship initiative, RAO’s Yuva Academy, stands as a testament to systematic excellence in sports education. Established in 2012 and certified with the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system, the academy has consistently produced athletes who excel in the Olympic discipline of Taekwondo across multiple competitive levels. The numbers speak eloquently of the academy’s impact: over 850 medals won by its athletes at district, divisional, state, zonal, and national competitions. A testament to the academy’s systematic approach to athlete development is the conduct of 36 Taekwondo Belt Promotion Tests since 2012, ensuring long-term credibility and sustainability of training standards. These rigorous assessments, conducted under international protocols, validate the technical proficiency and character development of athletes whilst maintaining the integrity of Taekwondo grading systems. However, the academy’s success transcends mere medal accumulation and belt progressions. Its approach to sports training emphasises not only athletic achievement but also the development of life skills through rigorous training, discipline, and mentorship. “Our athletes acquire qualities such as perseverance, resilience, and teamwork—skills that serve them well not just in sport but in all areas of life,” explains Taekwondo Master Rao. “By focusing on holistic development, we ensure that our athletes are equipped to excel both on and off the mat, preparing them to face life’s challenges with confidence and determination.” Empowering Communities Through Diverse Programmes Kick & Shout: Championing Women’s Safety Since 2016, the foundation’s “Kick & Shout” self-defence workshop has emerged as a cornerstone of women’s empowerment. This initiative, specifically curated from Taekwondo discipline, has benefited over 5,000 participants through intensive physical and mental training. The programme’s unique approach combines martial arts with mental strength training, making it far more than a mere physical exercise. The workshop’s reputation for excellence has attracted partnerships with renowned NGOs, including the Women Welfare Society, which regularly conducts the programme at their rehabilitation centres. This collaboration exemplifies the foundation’s ability to leverage partnerships for maximum social impact. Art Attack: Nurturing Creative Excellence Understanding that fine arts play a crucial role in fostering children’s mental imagery skills, Taekwondo Master Rao initiated the Art Attack drawing and painting contest in 2019. This annual competition attracts students from across Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa, serving as a platform for young talent to showcase artistic abilities whilst encouraging creativity and growth in fine arts. The contest has become a celebrated occasion for art-enthusiastic children and has consistently helped uncover promising new talents, with the foundation providing ongoing support and guidance to emerging artists. Social Entrepreneurship Development Programme In alignment with India’s growing emphasis on innovation and social enterprise, the Yakshit Yuva Foundation has launched a pioneering 30-day internship programme on “Social Entrepreneurship and its Allied Subjects” for undergraduate students from various colleges. This comprehensive initiative reflects Taekwondo Master Rao’s vision of nurturing young minds to become catalysts for social change through entrepreneurial thinking. The programme combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, covering essential topics including social impact measurement, sustainable business models, community engagement strategies, and ethical leadership. Participants gain hands-on experience in project development, stakeholder management, and resource mobilisation whilst working alongside the foundation’s experienced team on live social development projects. “We believe that the future of India lies in creating social entrepreneurs who can identify community challenges and develop sustainable solutions,” explains Taekwondo Master Rao. “This internship programme is designed to instil the same values of
